Welcome back to the Saki Series!
This article will be about the Kiyosumi Mahjong Club President Takei Hisa who is also the president of the Student Council! If there are any mahjong jargon you don’t understand, you can find the definitions at the glossary on the last page
Saki is a 25 episode long anime that describes the journey of the protagonist – Miyanaga Saki through her first ever Mahjong tournament. She used to dislike Mahjong but after meeting many people, she realises her talent in Mahjong and leads her school team, Kiyosumi High School Mahjong Club (which includes Hisa), to victory in the Prefecture Qualifiers for the National Tournament. The first season of Saki introduces the main characters of the top four mahjong teams in ‘Nagano’ which is the prefecture Saki lives in and the following seasons are about the Kiyosumi Mahjong Club in the national tournament until the semi finals as well as other teams. The anime belongs to the Shoujo, School, Game, Ecchi, Slice of Life and Shoujo-ai genres.
Takei Hisa is the president of the Kiyosumi Mahjong Club and is an excellent mahjong player who has many connections with students and Mahjong pros. Takei Hisa has been playing mahjong for many years and attended Kiyosumi because she didn’t have enough money to attend the prestigious mahjong school, Kazekoshi. She intends to rebuild the mahjong club and after waiting for two years, in her third year of high school, she finally gets a team together to compete for the national title. She likes to ‘wait’ at bad times when playing mahjong, often choosing the win on the worst wait her hand can have. She has great connections with pro player Fujita as they are friends and with the Nagano Prefecture Individual Champion, president of the Kazekoshi team, Mihoko Fukuji.
Takei Hisa comes fourth in the Individual Competition for the Nagano Prefecture, just missing out by one point on third place who was her kohai, Miyanaga Saki. She performed extremely well in the prefecture team finals to boost their team to first place but in ‘Saki: Zenkoku-hen’, she was nervous in the first half and doesn’t perform as well as she should have.
