Okay, before we start off with the major part of this article, I’d like to briefly enlighten you about this manga if anyone here doesn’t know.
Kaichou wa Maid-sama is a Japanese shōjo manga series written and illustrated by Hiro Fujiwara.
The story describes the life of a strong-hearted, hardworking girl named Misaki Ayuzawa. Because of her father leaving her and her mother alone at a very young age, Misaki takes-up the part-time job of a maid at the café Maid Latté, to help her mother in running the expenses of their household and to support the education for her younger sister. Due to this financial problem, Misaki joins Seika High, a rowdy, all-boys school, which has recently become co-ed because of its decreasing popularity. With her excellent scores in the academics and exceptionally good performances in the athletics, Misaki manages to become the first female President of the Student Council at Seika High and utilises her position to eradicate all the indiscipline displayed by the boys of the school to improve the overall reputation of the school and to provide a more secure surrounding for the minor amount of female students in the school.
Despite of gaining the title of a horrifying Dictator in the eyes of the males of her school and that of a ray of hope amongst the females, Misaki copes with her school life properly and continues to work at Maid Latté, albeit secretly. She doesn’t want her schoolmates to discover about being a part-time maid as it may effect her position as a maid. However, Takumi Usui— a very popular boy at her school, finds out about her job. Yet instead of spilling about her identity to everyone at school, he chooses to keep her secret and enjoys teasing her for it. Much to Misa’s chagrin, he even becomes a regular customer at the Maid Latté.
Known for being a genius in both academics and athletics as well as for turning down numerous love confessions, Usui begins to fall for Misaki as she is the only girl who isn’t fazed by his looks and treats him like a rival. Soon after going through a lot of awkward situations including being confronted by one of her childhood friends, Misaki begins to reciprocate Usui’s feelings. Unfortunately, their relationship starts getting troubled because of Usui’s familial past issues that return to haunt him. Thus, for the best of Misa and his friends, he decides to entirely leave Japan. But strong-willed as she is, Misaki strives to bring him back and a few people join in to help her in dealing with the situations while the others choose to root for her success.
In short…a must watch!
The Misery of this Fandom
It is a well-known fact that a majority of the anime-lovers are watchers, not readers. And so, most of the people start-off by watching the anime adaptation of the series, which entertains them well yet leaves them intrigued about a number of questions about Takumi Usui’s past.
Sadly, the anime is a single-seasoned compilation of 26 episodes + an approximately 11 minute long OVA, which came-out in April 2010. When the fans find out about this, they disappointedly switch-over to reading the manga instead. But, however good the manga maybe because of the comical moments in every single chapter and a beautiful conclusion to the relationship between Takumi and Misaki, the fans are struck by an intense feeling of dissatisfaction. It is not that the manga isn’t good enough but the fact that the manga is so good that its fandom thinks that it surely deserves a second season in order for the completion of the anime series. Who wouldn’t want to watch a completely animated version of this awesome manga?
The worst part about this manga is that the rumoured second season, which was supposed to come-out in the year 2015 was never launched. The animators are no longer working on the continuation of this series because they think that the time stretch has become too long and people will longer be interested in watching a second season. Contrary to this belief, it’s already 2017 and the fans are still desperately hoping to see a continuation to this tale which is light-hearted yet a slice of life and expresses a very inspiring message.
The second season of D Gray-man has finally been launched after a time gap of 10 years and yet the fans are eagerly watching it. So, I personally think that there’s no harm in doing the same with Maid-sama. This is all there is to say about it. I guess many of the Maid-sama fans will agree. And by the way, even though I prefer reading more than watching, I myself, am dying for a second season.
